Dr. Zahra Saki is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management, at Wilson College of Textiles. Among Wilson College of Textiles core values, Zahra is keen to focus specifically on Equity, Collaboration, Innovation, and Sustainability through her teaching and research.
Prior to joining NC State on July 1, 2024, Zahra was Product owner/manager at Trane Technologies where she was in charge of the success of mobile application of smart thermostats. In this role she expanded her leadership skills along with focusing on design thinking development. She has more than 12 years of global industry experience, with approximately 8 years in the supply chain management area.
Her research focuses on the economic advantages of the US textile industry and has generated multiple publications and presentations in international outlets to date. In addition to her research, Dr. Saki is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students. Her teaching philosophy centers on active learning and student engagement.

NC State Wilson College of Textiles, in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Lab and the North Carolina Textile Innovation and Sustainability Engine, will build a publicly accessible life cycle assessment database to promote more sustainable choices for the textile supply chain.
This proposal aims to investigate the economic viability and policy strategies for sustainable transportation in hemp supply chains, specifically focusing on hemp fibers for textiles and construction materials. By applying principles of industrial ecology, the study seeks to enhance cost-effectiveness and reduce environmental impacts. This research will use a lifecycle approach to examine hemp transportation, offering insights into optimized logistics, resource reuse, and policy recommendations for sustainable growth in the hemp industry.
