Bio

A true thought leader driving the bioeconomy transition in the Arab world for over 18 years. His multifaceted contributions span research, teaching, consulting, and industry leadership, with expertise in natural fibers and biobased materials, sustainable product development, circular bioeconomy, and biorefineries. Dr. Midani is part of several product commercialization projects, and he is a certified New Product Development Professional (NPDP).

He currently serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at both the Wilson College of Textiles, North Carolina State University, and the Materials Engineering Department at the German University in Cairo. He is also the CEO of VALORIZEN Research and Innovation Center, Managing Partner at Intexive Consulting, and Secretary General of the International Association for Palm Byproducts (ByPalma Assoc).

In 2024, Dr. Midani was awarded the DNFI Innovation in Natural Fibres Research Award for developing PalmFil®, the world’s first fibers derived from date palm byproducts. Previously, in 2022, he received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University in recognition of his pioneering contributions and lifelong dedication to fiber research.

Dr. Midani’s work continues to push the boundaries of sustainable innovation, advancing the global bioeconomy agenda with a particular focus on natural fibers and renewable materials.
